Professional counselling service for teenagers and adults face to face in Dunfermline and online
I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist regularly working with pre-teens (from 10 yrs), teens and adults. I have many years experience working within the primary and secondary education system throughout Fife and in an agency environment. I understand the unique developmental needs and challenges faced by youngsters regularly exploring issues around self-esteem, social anxiety, general anxiety, anger, loss, attachment issues, self- harm, suicidal ideation, sexual abuse and neurodivergence. My work with adults includes dealing with the effects of trauma, childhood sexual abuse, addiction and relational difficulties inc emotional, domestic, narcissistic abuse and childhood emotional neglect.
How we cope when we feel vulnerable, invalidated, scared, lonely, betrayed, angry, confused etc. can feel like a mystery, out of our control or completely normal if it’s always been that way. We do what we can to feel safe. Avoiding feeling vulnerable can show up in many ways. It might be self-soothing in ways we know aren’t helpful, anxiety making our life smaller, lashing out, self-isolating by rejecting people before they reject us etc.
Counselling can help us understand who we are and how we function in relationship with our-self and others. Increasing self-awareness can be really helpful to begin to understand our unmet needs and the strategies we adopt to meet them and explore if they are working.
Therapy for children and teenagers
Young people can find a safe and confidential space to talk about their challenges and concerns with a professional, experienced in building rapport with this age group. Sometimes it can be hard to talk to the ones we love about things we don't love about ourselves. This can be a much needed resource for teens who are struggling with a variety of issues.
Adult therapy
Our understanding of ourselves and relationships begins in infancy and is shaped by our ongoing experiences. Our resilience, emotional regulation and ability to trust can all be affected by gaps in feeling connected, valued and safe. In everyday life it’s not often we get the space to really look at what is going on. My aim is to facilitate self-compassion and psychological flexibility.
